FC Zenit forward: Hulk: ‘I will never forget Porto’
FC Zenit forward Hulk had fixed emotions after the Russian side defeated Porto 1-0 on Tuesday in the Champions League.
The Brazilian international set up Aleksandr Kerzhakov for the winner with five minutes remaining.
The win moves FC Zenit up to 2nd in Group G on four points, five adrift of Atlético de Madrid, who have nine. Porto are 3rd on three.
While pleased with the win, Hulk gave a glowing reference of his former club.
“For me, it was great to be back in this stadium where I spent four very happy years of my life,” he told uefa.com. “It was good to see the fans who supported me during my time at Porto and they gave me a good welcome back.
“I am a professional. I am happy because we got a positive result, but I will never forget Porto.”
The 27 year-old spent four years with the Dragões. He joined FC Zenit in September 2012 for €40 million.
Hulk praised the support at the Estádio do Dragão and admits he is now Portista himself.
“I think Porto have a great team with great players, and they have fans who really get behind their team, so it is very positive for us to have won here,” he continued. “When they play at home against Sporting [Clube de Portugal] on Sunday, I will be supporting them.
“The return match? I think it is going to be a great one, just like this one was. They always play to win, so we will have to concentrate to get the victory.”
Hulk has scored eight goals in 11 appearances for FC Zenit this season. The Saint Petersburg-based side are top of the Russian Premier League after 13 rounds.
