Johan Cruyff: ‘Neymar easier to defend against than Messi’
Former Barcelona manager Johan Cruyff believes defenders find it easier to cope with Neymar than Lionel Messi.
“Neymar is easier to defend against than Messi because of his height,” the 66 year-old told Asa, as reported by Inside Spanish Football.
“[Messi] shields the ball with his body and the defence find it harder to get a grip on him because he is smaller.”
Cruyff went on to say Neymar has “had a good start” but insists “time will tell” as to what impact he can make this season.
The 21 year-old, who has netted twice for Barcelona in La Liga, scored a free-kick as Brazil defeated South Korea 2-0 on Saturday. He is expected to start against Zambia in Beijing on Tuesday.
Cruyff managed Barcelona between 1988 and 1996. In that time he won La Liga on four occasions and a European Cup. He also played for the club across five seasons - 1973-1978.
