Jonas: I wouldn’t follow Diego Costa
Valencia forward Jonas understands Diego Costa’s desire to play for Spain, but insists he would not do the same.
The Atlético de Madrid striker is waiting for confirmation from FIFA to complete his switch to La Furia Roja.
“Everyone must think about themselves. If Diego Costa wants to play for Spain then it’s up to him to decide, although I wouldn’t do it,” Jonas told AS, as reported by Football Espana.
“I was born in Brazil, all my family are there and I want to play for Brazil. But I respect Diego Costa’s decision because he has been here a long time and Spain has given him everything.
“It is similar to what happened with Marcos Senna, but in my case it’s different. I grew up there and would like to play for the national team again.”
Jonas has earned eight caps for Brazil, scoring twice - both in a 2-0 friendly victory over Egypt. He has, however, not represented the Seleção since 2012.
The 29 year-old has made a good start to the new season with Valencia, netting four goals in six starts, including winners against Granada and Rayo Vallecano.
