Atlético Mineiro will face either Raya Casablanca, Auckland City or Monterrey in their Club World Cup semi-final.
On the other side of the draw, the AFC Champions League winners – FC Seoul or Guanzhou Evergrande – meet the CAF Champions League winners – Coton Sport, Al-Ahly, Orlando Pirates or Espérance – to earn a tie with Bayern Munich.
Atlético qualified for the competition, held in Morocco, as Copa Libertadores winners. They beat Olimpia 4-3 on penalties in July to lift the trophy for the first time.
The biggest threat to Cuca’s side will be Bayern Munich. The Champions League holders have already secured the UEFA Super Cup this season.
Brazilian teams have a strong recent history in the competition. Only Santos – 2011 against Barcelona – have lost to European opposition in the final, since it was rebranded in 2000.
Corinthians (2000, 2012), Internacional (2006) and São Paulo (2005) have all been victorious.
The opening game, Raja Casablanca vs. Auckland City, will be held on 11 December. Atlético Mineiro will play their semi-final on 18 December in Marrakesh.
