Around 50 protesters attempted to disrupt the visit of FIFA secretary general Jérôme Valcke to Cuiaba.

According to sport 24, a part of the construction area at the Arena Pantanal was vandalised.

Valcke and the other officials, including Ronaldo and Bebeto, were jeered as they arrived at the site.

The demonstrators had banners calling for “less World Cup, more health and education” and “FIFA go home” positioned inside the stadium.

There has been much unrest in Brazil at the cost of next summer’s World Cup, with many insisting more money should be spent on improvements for local citizens.

“People have the right to protest, but they should respect other people, like the construction workers in the stadium,” stated Valcke. “They have the right to protest, but it should be peaceful.”

The Confederation Cup, earlier this year, saw a number of protests and demonstrations.
