Beira-Rio on schedule
The Estádio Beira-Rio is expected to be completed ahead of it's deadline.
Their had been doubts as to whether redevelopment would be finished on schedule.
However, after visiting the stadium on Monday, FIFA Secretary General Jérôme Valcke insists that is no longer a concern.
“There’s been a big change since we were here last time, he told FIFA.com. “There are no worries or doubts at all about the Beira-Rio being ready in time. A FIFA World Cup stadium is very different to the one that will be used by Internacional. We have a lot more activities going on and a lot more people involved, and the surroundings of the Beira-Rio will allow us to do the things we have to without any problems.”
Internacional president Giovani Luigi, whose club use the Beira-Rio, is excited to see the plans close to completion.
“It gives all of us here at Internacional great pleasure to be welcoming everyone at such an important time, a time when the project for the construction of a first-class stadium is becoming a reality.”
A delegation including Valcke, LOC Management Board members Ronaldo and Bebeto and Brazilian Minister of Sport Aldo Rebelo have been on a two-day tour of Porto Alegre and Cuiaba.
As well as inspecting the Beira-Rio, work at Cuiaba’s Arena Pantanel and the Pinheiro Borda viaduct - a key feature of the urban mobility plan in Porto Alegre - has been assessed.
