Botafogo head coach Oswaldo de Oliveira was taken to hospital after his side’s 1-0 defeat to Grêmio on Saturday.

Alex Telles’ 38th minute strike was enough to secure Tricolor victory.

Following the conclusion of the contest, Oliveira complained of chest pains. He was taken to the Sao Jose hospital, where he stayed the night. Doctors undertook a series of examinations to ascertain the cause.

The 64 year-old’s friend Rene Simoes insists Oliveira is in good spirits.

“I went to the [hospital] room, spoke with him and everything is ok. We even had a laugh," Simoes told O Globo, as reported by ShanghaiDaily.com.

It is not known when the former Kashima Antlers head coach will be on the bench for Botafogo’s next match at Náutico.

The defeat to Grêmio leaves the Rio de Janeiro-based club in 4th place. It was their fourth loss in five matches.
