Schweinsteiger ‘hit me in the back of the head’ insists Diego
Diego insists Bastien Schweinsteiger should have been sent off after a clash between the two players in Bayern Munich’s 1-0 win against VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday.
The German international appeared to push Diego in the back of the head on 26 minutes.
Referee Bastian Dankert witnessed the incident, but chose to punish Schweinsteiger with just a yellow card.
That apparently lenient punishment irked Diego, who believes his Bayern counterpart deserved to be dismissed.
"He hit me in the back of the head," the 28 year-old told Bild, as reported by goal.com.
"I felt a contact in my neck. That was surprising to me, I did not see him coming.
"I think everyone has seen the situation. Everyone should judge what they've seen. It is sometimes difficult to understand how referees think. I will try to accept that."
Thomas Müller’s solitary 63rd minute strike was enough to hand Bayern victory and ensure they keep pace with Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga. Wolfsburg have dropped to 10th.
