Report: Atlético could make January bid for Liverpool playmaker Coutinho
Atlético de Madrid will renew their interest in Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho, if they progress through the Champions League group stages.
Los Rojiblancos had an enquiry rebuffed over the summer, but the Sunday People insists that will not deter them from bidding again in January.
Coutinho, who Liverpool signed from Internazionale for a fee reported to be around £8.5 million in January, has settled quickly on Merseyside.
Manager Brendan Rodgers recently described the 21 year-old as a “really pivotal player for us” after he limped off in a 2-2 draw at Swansea City with a shoulder injury that will keep him out until the end of October.
Any move from Atlético would be dependent on them reaching the Champions League knock-out stages, continues the Sunday People, while in any case it remains unlikely that Liverpool will entertain the Spanish outfit's interest.
Diego Simeone’s side defeated Real Madrid 1-0 on Saturday night - their first El Derbi madrileño victory in La Liga since the 1999/00 season - to maintain a 100 per cent start to the season.
The 43 year-old’s squad already possesses four Brazilians - Diego Costa, João Miranda, Filipe Luís and Léo Baptistão.
