Casemiro eager to impress at Real Madrid and earn Brazil recall
Brazilian midfielder Casemiro is looking to build on an impressive first six months at Real Madrid.
The 21 year-old initially joined the Real Madrid Castilla on loan from São Paulo in January.
He impressed sufficiently to earn a promotion into the first team, making his debut against Real Betis on April 20.
Having been signed permanently in the summer - Real Madrid exercised their purchase option - Casemiro is now growing into an increasingly important player under new Real coach Carlo Ancelotti.
“I’m very happy,” the São José dos Campos native told AS. “This is my first year in Spain and I’m enjoying some great experiences, playing frequently and learning every day. However, I keep my feet on the ground and I know that I need to keep on working every day to win the confidence of everyone at the club.”
Casemiro was also full of praise for Cristiano Ronaldo.
“He’s [Ronaldo] one of my best mates at the club. He loves Brazil and he gets on very well with the Brazilians,” he continued. “He’s a ten-out-of-ten guy, and he’s always been there to help me out. Not to mention the fact that he’s an example to everyone. He is always early for training and gives everything for his club.”
Next summer’s World Cup is an aim for every player and Casemiro is no different. He has five caps for Brazil, but is yet to be called up by head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari, since he returned to the post last November.
“Representing Brazil and playing at the World Cup would be a dream for me, but right now I’m only thinking about working hard at Real Madrid and putting in a great season with the club,” insists the youngster. “If I do well at Madrid, opportunities could come my way with Brazil. But for now I have to keep working hard here.”
