Paulinho scores as Tottenham see off Aston Villa
Paulinho scored his second goal in three days as Tottenham strolled past Aston Villa in the Capital One Cup.
A Jermain Defore double and goals from the Brazilian and Nacer Chadli helped Spurs into the fourth round of the competition.
In the all Premier League tie, Andre Villas Boas’ men were on top throughout and deservedly took the lead on the stroke of half time.
England striker Defoe latched on to a great ball from Lewis Holtby to give Spurs a half time lead.
Then, four minutes after the break, Paulinho got in on the act to double the London club’s advantage.
A corner into the Villa box caused mayhem and the ball eventually deflected in off the 25-year-old - his second goal in three days after grabbing a last-minute winner against Cardiff on Sunday.
With Spurs cruising to victory, Villa’s chances were not helped by two late mistakes from Yacouba Sylla as he allowed Nacer Chadli and Defore to both snatch late goals to complete the rout for the visitors.
