Lack of changes key to Atlético success, insists Filipe
Atlético de Madrid defender Filipe Luís believes the club’s ability to retain many of it’s players has been crucial to their continued success under coach Diego Simeone.
Aside from the loss of Radamel Falcao to Monaco, Atlético have managed to keep the vast majority of the first-team squad togethe for the past couple of seasons.
“This team has been almost the same for three years,” Filipe told reports after the capital club’s 2-0 victory against Real Valladolid on Saturday. “The club has made a huge effort to keep the same base the past two seasons and it shows because we know each other.
“The games that we are playing are very solid, very concrete and we work well game by game.”
Filipe admitted that Atlético were sluggish in the first half against Valladolid, but improved after the break, following a rousing team-talk from Simeone.
“We started the game a bit slow and after the talk the coach gave us at halftime we changed.
“He gave us a good talk and in the second half it was different. We dominate the opponent to get the goal and the points.”
