Ronaldo: Bale shouldn’t focus on price tag
Former Real Madrid forward Ronaldo has admitted he’s not sure whether Gareth Bale is worth £100 million, but insists the Welshman shouldn’t be concerned by how much he cost Los Merengues.
When asked whether he thought Bale’s talent matches Real Madrid’s huge outlay, the 37 year-old responded evasively.
“I don’t know the answer to that one,” he said in an interview with AS.
“Every year we get taken aback by the amounts paid in football, but hopefully he can play well and how much he cost will be forgotten.
“I hope the fans enjoy watching him.”
Ronaldo was asked how much he’d be valued in today’s market.
“I don’t know [laughs]. But players shouldn’t even think about it, that way madness lies.
“I struggled with it, but I managed to forget about it, on the pitch at least.”
Ronaldo retired in 2011, after ended his career at Corinthians. He played for Real Madrid between 2002 and 2007, having been signed from Internazionale for €46 million, scoring 83 goals in 127 appearances.
During his career, Il Fenomeno also represented Cruzeiro, PSV, Barcelona and Milan.
