Vagner has Sevilla regrets
Estoril goalkeeper Vagner feels his side were unfortunate to have lost against Sevilla on Thursday.
The Europa League debutants were defeated 2-1 at the Estádio António Coimbra da Mota.
Sevilla took the lead through midfielder Vitolo on 59 minutes. Bruno Miguel equalised just 120 seconds later, before substitute Kévin Gameiro nicked the points for Los Rojiblancos.
“We all knew how powerful Sevilla are,” he told uefa.com. “We started the match very focused and even though they had the first chance we were able to control the game.
“In the second half they managed to score but we did not throw in the towel and got it back to 1-1. We then grew as a team but we conceded the second goal after an error, with a opponent left unmarked in front of the goal.
“Sevilla are the favourites in the group but we will try to qualify.” the 27 year-old concluded.
Vagner is in his fifth season with Estoril, having been signed from Desportivo Brasil in 2009. He initially spent two years on loan, before agreeing a permanent switch.
Estoril qualified for the Europa League by finishing 5th in the Primeira Liga.
