Matos hails dream debut for Fiorentina
Brazilian winger Ryder Matos admits he was ‘delighted’ with his Fiorentina debut, having netted in La Viola’s 3-0 win against Paços de Ferreira on Thursday.
The 20 year-old netted just 60 seconds after replacing Spaniard Joaquín, to seal victory for Fiorentina in their Europa League Group E opener.
I'm delighted because this was my first game for Fiorentina; it was my debut, and I scored with my first touch,” the winger told uefa.com. “When the coach called me, it's only normal that I was a bit nervous, but as soon as I got on the field and scored, I settled down. This is what we all wanted – to win here to gain more confidence.”
Fiorentina want to win in the Europa League like we do in Serie A; we want to go all the way,” he continued. “I dedicate my goal to my father and my family, who've always been close to me. I'll call them as soon as I get home. I live alone so I can't wait to talk to them.”
Matos has been with Fiorentina since 2010. He spent last season on loan at Brasileirão side Bahia. His form in Salvador convinced coach Vincenzo Montella of his qualities and he decided to keep the youngster in Florence for the new campaign.
