Oscar scores as Chelsea lose Champions League opener
Chelsea midfielder Oscar could not prevent his side going down 2-1 to Basel in the Champions League.
Jose Mourinho’s men were looking to build on their Europa League triumph and get off to a good start in the group stages of this year’s Champions League.
They got of to the perfect start after Seleção international Oscar broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time for the home side.
The 21-year-old looked the be Chelsea’s biggest attacking threat and he went close to doubling his own and his side’s tally as his saw a shot cannon off the crossbar early in the second half.
However, the Stamford Bridge club never looked to be in full control and the visitors soon leveled through Mohamed Salah after 71 minutes.
Basel were not ready to settle for a point and eventually took the lead as Marco Streller headed home at the near post from a corner to give the visitors the victory.
For Chelsea, Oscar and Willian both impressed but they were two of very few positives for Jose Mourinho’s side.
