Matri wanted Celtic victory for Kaka
AC Milan striker Alessandro Matri was determined to get the victory over Celtic to give Kaka a morale boost.
The midfielder, who returned to Milan this summer after four years away at Real Madrid, has been ruled out for a month with a hamstring injury and Matri wanted to use the Champions League tie to cheer his teammate up, reports Goal.com.
"I send my best wishes to Kaka. He's a great player and extremely important for our team," the attacker said at a press conference before the game.
We’ll try and win this game for him and the other players out injured."
Milan did win the game after a tight contest thanks to goals from Cristian Zapata and Sulley Muntari despite many players out injured, including Kaka.
Matri last met Celtic with Juventus in last year's edition of the Champions League, when he netted twice in the Serie A champions' 5-0 aggregate win in the round of 16, and the Italian is keen to see history repeated.
"I have a good history with Celtic. I hope history repeats itself and we get the three points," he added.
"They’re a strong team that have been playing together for a long time. We’ll have to play our own game and with the help of the fans we want to get started in the best way we can."
