Diego Costa helps Atlético Madrid go top
Atlético Madrid rose to the top of the La Liga table as Diego Costa helped them to a 4-2 victory over Almeria.
The home side took the lead when David Villa put them ahead after 15 minutes before Atlético’s Brazilian unit joined the party.
Seleção international defender Felipe Luis was brought down in the area to allow Diego Costa to double Atlético’s advantage after 37 minutes.
Almeria pulled a goal back just before half time but it wasn’t enough to stop an inspired Atlético as second half goals from Thiago and Raul Garcia secured the win for Diego Simeone’s men.
Alex Vidal grabbed a late consolation goal for the vistors who are still looking for their first league win of the new season and find themselves languishing in 14th position in the table.
Brazilian defender Joao Miranda missed the game after suffering with a fever before the match, which led Simeone to replace him with Uruguayan Jose Maria Gimenez.
