Nilton scores as Cruzeiro move seven points clear
Cruzeiro pulled seven points clear at the top of the Brazilian championship following a 1-0 victory over Atlético Paranaense.
A first half goal from highly rated young Brazilian Nilton earned Cruzeiro the victory to stretch their lead at the top of the league to seven points.
The highly rated midfielder was on target nine minutes before the break and it proved to be the difference between the league leaders and forth place Atlético Paranaense.
The win gave the hosts a healthy cushion over second placed Botofogo ahead of their visit to Santos on Sunday night.
In Saturday's other game, Fluminense edged Portuguesa 2-1 to move up to ninth - and leave their opponents in the bottom four.
Diogo had put the visitors ahead 11 minutes before the interval but Rafael Sobis equalised with a penalty on the hour mark and then set up Wagner for the winner 12 minutes later.
