São Paulo slump to defeat as Rogerio Ceni misses penalty
São Paulo’s woes continued as they went down to Criciuma in the Morumbi, leaving them languishing in the relegation zone.
The home side went two goals behind in the first half after a Marcel penalty and a goal from Lins gave Criciuma the advantage going into the break.
Goal-scoring goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni stepped up when his team were awarded a penalty, but his kick was saved by his opposite number Galatto.
Aloisio was able to pull a goal back for São Paulo but they were unable to draw level, allowing Criciuma to take all three points and move up to 9th position.
Náutico aside, the bottom half of the table is fairly tight, with just eight points separating 9th and 19th, so São Paulo will still be confident that they can escape this precarious position come the end of the season.
São Paulo will play their fourth game in eight days on Sunday, when they face Coritiba away.
