Cruzeiro go four points clear after defeating Bahia
A 3-1 victory over Bahia at the Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador saw Cruzeiro go four points clear at the top of the Brazilian Serie A table.
Goals in the first half from Borges and Everton Ribeiro put Cruzeiro two goals to the good, before Bahia pulled one back through Fahel midway through the second half.
Former Real Madrid, Arsenal, and Malaga forward Júlio Baptista made sure of the three points in the ninetieth minute, after smashing home an effort from close range when the ball rebounded to him.
The win puts Cruzeiro in a commanding position on the top of the Brasileirão at the halfway stage of the season, and puts them a total of seven points ahead of early season pacemakers Botafogo, who play tonight.
Cruzeiro’s next game is at home to Flamengo on Sunday, where they will be hoping to pick up another three points.
