Maicon determined to take his chances for Brazil
The injury to Dani Alves could see Maicon return to the right back position for Brazil, after spending more than two years out of the international scene.
Maicon struggled for regular football last season at Manchester City, and as a result was rarely considered for the international squad.
A dip in form during his final season at Inter Milan also saw him drop down the pecking order at right back, but the latest turn of events could see the 32-year-old given a final chance.
Now at Roma in the Italian Serie A, he’s back playing football again, and is determined to force his way back into the national set-up on a permanent basis, just in time for the 2014 World Cup.
Maicon commented "Whenever I wore the Brazilian shirt I tried to do my best. And every time I get an opportunity like this is it is the same.
“I was called up again, and I hope everything goes well as before. My goal is not to leave the seleção [national squad]" he added.
As reported yesterday, Atlético Mineiro right back Marcos Rocha has also been called up to the national side to cover for Dani Alves, but many believe Maicon will get the start against Australia on Saturday.
