Alexandre Pato called up to Brazil squad to replace Fred
Corinthians striker Alexandre Pato has been called up to the Brazil squad to replace Fred, as the Fluminense forward faces three months out with injury.
Pato has been summoned to the team who will play Australia on Saturday at the Mané Garrincha stadium, in Brasilia. They will then face Portugal in the USA on Wednesday, at the Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
The former AC Milan forward turned 24 today, and the call-up to the national side will come as a welcome birthday present for the player.
He’ll be fighting with Atlético Mineiro centre forward Jô, for a place in the starting eleven, with the other forwards Neymar and Hulk likely to play in wider roles.
Fred’s thigh injury comes as a blow for both the national side, and his club sideFluminense who are struggling in the league this season.
