Botafogo striker Henrique moves to Real Madrid on loan
Botafogo forward Henrique has joined Real Madrid’s reserve side, Real Madrid Castilla, on loan for the 2013/14 season.
The Spanish club have the option to buy the player at the end of the loan spell, should he impress sufficiently during his time at the club.
The striker rose to prominence in 2011, when he was the star player for Brazil’s youth side in the U20 World Cup. Brazil ran out tournament champions, with Henrique walking away with the award for best player, as well as being top scorer in the competition.
But Henrique has struggled for form and consistency since the tournament, and as a result he’s had limited chances of first team football.
He’d found himself second or third in the striking pecking order at Botafogo, and as they only play with one up front he’s only made substitute appearances for the club this season.
He’ll be hoping that his move to the Real Madrid B team, who play in the Spanish second division, can help to revive his career, and replicate that of another star of that 2011 Brazil U20 side, Casemiro, who is currently in the Real Madrid first team squad.
