Flamengo strike Olympic deal with Team USA
The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) has signed a $1 million deal with Flamengo to help American athletes prepare for the Rio 2016 Games.
The USOC have agreed to pay for improvements to Flamengo's current training facilities in the Rio de Janeiro neighborhood of Gavea.
And in turn the USA team will use the base during the Olympic and Paralympic Games, with proposals including a new aquatic park, rowing centre, martial arts gym, tennis courts and refurbished dressing rooms.
Flamengo’s Olympic sports director Alexandre Povoa said: "This is a historic occasion and is line with our efforts to restructure Flamengo."
The financial agreement between the two parties could rise to as much as $4 million if all projects are approved.
"We are looking forward to investing in the long-term success of Flamengo and are confident that our athletes will have everything they need to do well at the Rio 2016 Olympics," USOC's performance chief Alan Ashley said on Thursday.
