Botafogo fans express anger at Vitinho move
Botafogo supporters have expressed their anger at the sale of young starlet Vitinho to CSKA Moscow, criticising the move as motivated by money.
After the announcement that 19-year-old sensation Vitinho is set to join CSKA Moscow, fans quickly took to social media to express their anger.
Some also wrote messages on the walls of the team's headquarters in Rio de Janeiro, criticising the player and the board.
The messages attacked Vitinho's decision to move, calling him a "mercenary". "The love is over," said another of the messages, below a series of dollar signs painted on the wall of the headquarters.
The complaints prompted Vitinho's wife to defend the player and say it was an opportunity that he couldn't pass up.
"It's not about money," Thayane Santos said, according to Globoesporte.com. "He has a family. It's about an opportunity."
Police had to be called in to keep the group of fans from causing more damages at the team's headquarters late Monday night. Local media reported that the windows of the team's official shop were also vandalised.
