Barcelona 7-0 Levante: Dani Alves scores in Camp Nou rout
Dani Alves scored to help Barcelona kick off their La Liga campaign with a stunning 7-0 rout of Levante on Sunday.
The 2012-13 champions are under new management this season after Gerardo Martino replaced Tito Vilanova at the helm of the club.
And Barca gave their new coach the best possible start with a goal less than three minutes after kick off at Camp Nou.
Xavi and Cesc Fabregas combined to present Alexis Sanchez with an open goal to tap into, before Lionel Messi exchanged passes with Pedro to stroke in the second.
Dani Alves struck the third in the 23rd minute after another slick passing move on the edge of the area allowed him to roll the ball into the back of the net.
And Pedro, who started wide on the left of the attack to keep Brazilian superstar Neymar on the bench, bagged Barca’s fourth just three minutes later.
Adriano was felled by Pedro Lopez in the box for a penalty in the 42nd, which Messi stepped up to fire home, and Fabregas set up Xavi with a great looping pass over the defence to make it 6-0 shortly before half-time.
Neymar was given a rousing reception by the Catalan faithful when he came on for his competitive debut and the forward showed a few nice touches.
But it was Pedro who notched the seventh after a mix up in the Levante defence in the 73rd allowed him to tap home from close range.
