Spurs boss Villas-Boas: Paulinho plays like Frank Lampard
Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has welcomed comparisons between Paulinho and Chelsea star Frank Lampard.
The 25-year-old is a new addition to the White Hart Lane outfit this summer, having secured a €20 million move from Corinthians at the start of July.
And Paulinho expressed his delight at being likened to the Blues legend by fellow South American Juan Roman Riquelme, and Villas-Boas believes Lampard is a fantastic role model for the midfielder.
"I think Frank is a player that he [Paulinho] holds in high esteem," the Spurs boss told OMNISPORT.
"He is a fantastic all-round footballer and has reached so many trophies and so much success in his career. For Paulinho to have him as a reference is the best example that you can have.
"He is that type of midfielder – all-rounder with a smell for goal – and I think we will see him score this season for Tottenham."
The Brazil international also revealed that the Portuguese coach influenced his decision to join Spurs this summer.
"Andre Villas-Boas is very well regarded in Brazil and he was part of the reason why I joined Tottenham," Paulinho told The Guardian.
"We have been talking about how he wants me to play. It makes things easier that we speak the same language."
