Milan forward Robinho could miss the start of the new Serie A season after the club confirmed he will need further tests on a thigh injury.

The Brazil international had an eventful game against Valencia in the International Champions Cup tournament on Saturday.

He missed a penalty, opened the scoring and then left the pitch injured as Milan won their opening fixture 2-1 at the Mestalla.

And now the club have confirmed the 29-year-old suffered an upper left thigh strain and “will undergo further tests in two weeks for a complete definition of the situation.”

This suggests Robinho could be out of action for some time and may be unavailable when the club kick off their competitive football this season.

The first leg of Milan’s Champions League play-off will take place August 20-21, before the Serie A season starts on August 24 and then their second leg a few days later.

Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri has admitted to concerns over the striker’s injury.
