Spanish top division club Granada have signed Náutico’s highly-rated player Douglas Santos, who is regarded as one of the most promising players developed at Náutico’s youth academy in recent years.

The left-back has played for Brazil’s Under-20 team and was called up for the senior team’s friendly against Bolivia in April.

The transfer fee was not disclosed but it is estimated in around €2.3 million, with Náutico only set to receive 60% of that value while third parties will get the rest.

Náutico president Paulo Wanderley said: “The negotiation was taking a few days, but it started to become a reality on Friday.

“He is joining Granada, so he didn’t play on Saturday against Ponte Preta, he will have to undergo the medical, so we wanted to prevent any injuries.”

He added: “It was a fair negotiation, we wanted to get more, but it wasn’t possible. But it was good for everyone. We can’t disclose the values but they will be announced when we publish the club’s financial report.”

Douglas Santos is also happy with the transfer, he added: “All players dream of playing in Europe, this is nothing new.

“I can only thank Náutico for the opportunity I had. I will never forget and I hope to return to the club one day.”
