São Paulo’s manager Ney Franco has been sacked following the defeat to Corinthians in the Recopa this week.

Ney Franco had been appointed as manager of São Paulo a year ago, winning the Copa Sudamericana title in December.

He had annoyed some of the players when he implied it was their fault São Paulo were not getting results, while his lack of consistency, always changing the team’s formation, did not please the club’s board.

Assistant manager Mílton Cruz will be in charge of the team during the weekend, when São Paulo face Santos at the Morumbi.

Muricy Ramalho is regarded as the favorite option to replace Ney Franco, he managed São Paulo in the mid to late 2000s, winning three Brazilian league titles, and was recently working at Santos.
