Brazil defender David Luiz has confirmed that he broke his nose during the Seleção’s 2-0 Confederations Cup win over Mexico on Wednesday.
The Chelsea star spent a number of spells off the field in the first half after a clash of heads with blood pouring from his nose.
However, the defender finished the match and impressed at the back, while helping his team to victory.
He told reporters after the game: "Yes, my nose is broken, but that's part of the game.
"Now I'll have to wait until the end of the competition and undergo a surgery to fix it."
Brazil were spurred on throughout the game by a raucous crowd in Fortaleza and Luiz echoed Neymar in praising the support.
He admitted the noise generated during the national anthems created a special moment.
Luiz added: "It was thrilling, it gave me the chills. It's one of the best sensations i've had in my life, to see the whole stadium singing with passion.
"We'll always make sure to give our best to these people, but it was an even bigger incentive to get on the pitch."
Brazil sit top of Group A with two wins from two on the verge of a semi-final place with one group game left to play.
