Santos players have admitted their surprise by the recent sacking of experienced manager Muricy Ramalho.

Muricy Ramalho was sacked by the club’s board last week following his team’s poor start in the Brazilian national league.

The team tied 1-1 with Grêmio in their first game after Muricy Ramalho’s sacking, Claudinei Oliveira is the caretaker manager.

Arouca talked to reporters about the sacking, the midfielder said: “We were all very surprised, but this is football, we have to move on. We will do everything to help the team improve.”

His teammate Léo was surprised as well. he told reporters: “I wasn’t expecting that, it was a surprise, but we know this is football, we have to work, time to move on.”

Athletic Bilbao’s manager Marcelo Bielsa is Santos’ main target, his contract with the Basque club ends at the end of the month.
