Figueirense made it three wins out of three in Brazil’s second division, as they beat Sport of Recife by three goals to two in an entertaining game.

Midfielder Maylson gave the Florianópolis side the lead after just five minutes, as his powerful right foot shot was too much for Sport ‘keeper Magrão to handle.

The lead was doubled when Maylson was pushed from behind in the area by Felipe Azevedo. The resultant penalty was converted by Rafael Costa, placed accurately into the bottom right hand corner.

In the second half Sport mounted their come-back. Centre back Gabriel Santos leaped to nod home a Lucas Lima free-kick, then just minutes later the equaliser came from another set piece as Rithiely headed in Marcos Aurélio’s corner.

Then, in a thrilling end to the match, Rafael Costa pounced to score his second goal of the game and win the game for his side.

Full back Wellington Saci delivered a dangerous ball from the left, which was flicked on by substitute Pablo, before Costa was on hand to head the ball home.

Three teams from the state of Santa Catarina currently occupy the top three places in Serie B, but this is unlikely to remain the case for long as favourites Palmeiras play their game tonight versus América Mineiro.
