Roma star Marquinhos has admitted that he feels “honoured” to play for the club, amid speculation the defender could leave this summer.

The recently-turned 19-year-old has been increasingly linked with a possible move to Spanish champions Barcelona, following a breakthrough season with the Giallorossi.

However, after denials from the club that he is neither moving nor being handed a new contract to deter any reputed interest, the young Brazilian has taken to Twitter.

“At this time it is difficult to find the words,” Marquinhos posted on his official account following Roma’s Coppa Italia Final defeat to arch-rivals Lazio.

“We are the first to question things when we do not achieve the results, but I am honoured to wear the jersey of Roma, the best is yet to come.”

Marquinhos moved to the Italian outfit for €3 million last summer and made 26 league appearances, helping Roma finish sixth in Serie A.
