Brazilian Midfielder Denilson, who is on loan at São Paulo from English club Arsenal, says he feels at home at the club and hopes to make the move permanent.

The player was speaking in response to compliments from his manager Ney Franco, after their side’s 2-0 win over Ponte Preta in the first league game of the new season.

Denilson said: “I am very happy to hear the coach say I am one of the best in my position, and we will not give up on making my stay at the club permanent.

“As everyone knows, my future is indefinite, but I feel at home here.”

Denilson’s loan contract with São Paulo runs out on June 30, which is the same day his contract with Arsenal will expire, but between now and then he will be giving his all for his current club, regardless of future outcomes.

“I want to thank Ney Franco for the compliments, and he has the confidence and support of the group,” added Denilson.

“We want to fight for the title from the start.”
