Vasco da Gama’s Carlos Tenorio has played down injury concerns after being forced to stay on the pitch during their 1-0 win over Portuguesa despite picking up a knock.

Tenorio scored the only goal in the victory and the win sees Vasco lead the top of the Brasileirão table after Saturday’s fixtures.

“It’s nothing, just cramp. Playing with one striker up front is difficult. You have to give everything. It was tough but I had to be there, doing something.

“Today, I scored the goal and the team won. It is difficult to score three goals and losing 4-3, the most important thing is that the team won.

“We had to win the game, everyone knew it would be difficult. Victory will motivate the team but we have a long way to go.”

Vasco da Gama’s doctor also confirmed that Tenorio didn’t pick up a serious injury and is safe to play in their next fixture.

“He had no way of leaving the pitch and more or less stopped playing. There is nothing more to be said.”
