Corinthians started their campaign with a stutter as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Botafogo at the Pacaembu.

Rafael Marques opened the scoring with a first-half strike to put Botafogo into the lead before the Timão rallied back via a Paulinho equaliser to secure a point.

A Carlos Tenorio goal early in the second half was enough to earn Vasco da Gama a 1-0 victory over Portuguesa at the São Januário and puts them at the top of the table.

In the remaining game, Internacional rescued a point after being stunned by Vitoria as they grabbed two early goals in a 2-2 draw.

Maxi Biancucchi and Gabriel Paulista put Vitoria two goals ahead in the first twelve minutes before Dunga’s side recovered their poise.

Diego Forlan and Fred levelled proceedings and secured Internacional a point as their quality told by the final whistle.
