Brazilian legend Careca last night pledged his support to helping fulfil owner Simon Clifford’s improbable Garforth Town dream after playing for 85 minutes in the 3-1 friendly win over Guiseley.
The 44-year-old, who scored 29 goals in 60 internationals and appeared in two World Cup Finals, received a standing ovation when he was substituted.
He hit a post and flashed a free-kick just wide in front of a 500-plus crowd as skipper Brett Renshaw, Jay Sobers and Shane Harding scored Garforth’s goals during a second-half revival.
And, although he didn’t see a playing future at Garforth, he revealed that he would be back to assist the club at a coaching level.
