Fluminense beat Volta Redonda 4-1 to advance to the Rio de Janeiro State Championship’s second turn (Taça Rio) final, where they will face Botafogo.

The big score hides the fact that Fluminense could have won by an even bigger margin as they hit the post three times in the first half.

Rafael Sóbis was the man of the match, he opened the scoring for the Tricolor after only 11 minutes into the first half.

Fluminense’s lead did not last as Zé Augusto equalized for Volta Redona two minites later. Wellington Nem placed Flu ahead again in the 30th minute. after receiving a good pass from Carlinhos.

Rafael Sóbis scored his second goal early in the second half, extending Fluminense’s lead to 3-1.

Thiago Neves ended any Volta Redonda hopes with an impressive shot from distance that could not be saved by goalkeeper Gatti.

Flu’s next match will be against Emelec for Libertadores, and Thiago Neves hopes to be there, he said after the game: “The goal make me more confident, I trained well this week, then felt pain again, rested for two days and played this game.”

“I’m confident I can train and play against Emelec, but I’m not 100%, I played 15 minutes and I’m very tired, I’ll rest to be better on Thursday.”
