Flamengo are considering the possibility of making a move for Grêmio’s out of favor Bolivian striker Marcelo Moreno.

Marcelo Moreno has recently been sidelined from Grêmio’s squad as the club announced they plan to sell him.

The rubro-negro currently have in Hernane their main striker, but there are doubts if he has what it takes to succeed in the tough national league, which will start in May.

Flamengo’s vice-president Wallim Vasconcellos admitted interest for the Bolivian striker, he Rádio Bradesco Esportes FM: “We are checking several players, we have to understand what happened to him at Grêmio, the reason why he was sidelined.”

“We have to see if he has any off the field problem and only then we can think about negotiations.”

Marcelo Moreno’s father Mauro Martins would support a move to Flamengo, he told MAIS: “It would be good for Marcelo Moreno to join Flamengo, it’s a giant club known in the whole world.”

“If he leaves Grêmio, he will choose Flamengo, I’ll ask him myself to do so, this his preference.”

Mauro Martins also talked about Marcelo Moreno’s squad number if he joins Flamengo, he said: “I don’t see him wearing Zico’s number 10, I want him to wear number 9, like Doval. If he has the same success Doval had at Flamengo, I’ll be very happy.”
