Neymar is a doubt for the quarterfinals of the Paulista state championship this weekend, after picking up a muscle strain in Brazil’s 2-2 draw with Chile on Wednesday night.

The young Brazil striker, 21, has never missed a game through injury in his career, but I in danger of missing the big São Paulo derby this weekend.

The injury occurred at the start of the second half, and Neymar was scene icing his leg in the changing room post-match.

The Santos idol, though, is still hopeful of playing, telling reporters: “I felt it in the last game, but I must rest now. I am icing it because I want to play on Saturday.”

Neymar would be a major absentee for the Peixe should he miss the clash, having played 14 games for Santos in 2013 and scored 13 times in the process.

The forward returned to Santos on Thursday afternoon, but will miss training in order to do physio work with the club’s medical staff ahead of Saturday’s clash at the Vila Belmiro.
