Flamengo"s midfielder Gabriel was named man of the match as his team beat Fluminense 3-1 in the traditional Fla-Flu derby.

Gabriel played the game although he got the flu and thus was not fully fit, that did not prevent him from shining.

The former Bahia midfielder shone throughout the match until he had to be subbed off in the second half as he was too tired.

He said: “I had to leave because I got the flu, I really wanted to play the game, but [manager] Jorginho subbed me off because I asked him to, I was too tired."

Gabriel was named the man of the match by the sponsors Peugeot and was given a ‘Peugeot 208" as a gift.

He will not keep the car, he said: “I"m not a good driver, the whole squad deserves the car, so I will sell it and split the value with my teammates."

This was Flamengo"s best match since Jorginho was hired as manager, according to Gabriel: “In my opinion this was the best game with Jorginho, games against big clubs are different, they have to attack more and give us more space."

He completed: “I can"t relax, I have to improve my passing, finishing, crossing, seek my best."
