Bahia manager Jorginho resigns after derby defeat
Bahia have sacked manager Jorginho following the 1-5 defeat to Bahia in the inaugural match of the new Fonte Nova stadium.
The manager made his decision after talking with Bahia's players and board. He told reporters after the game: "I apologize for the delay, as I was talking inside, deciding my future. We talked and agreed that it's not possible for me to help Bahia. We'll leave the club but I'll first respond to all your questions".
Jorginho added: "I also want to congratulate Vitória".
His relationship with the squad was bad even before the game as Souza got angry for having been left out of the squad in a recent match.
Bahia have not appointed a replacement yet but former Flamengo manager Dorival Júnior is deemed the favorite option.
Despite the defeat, the Esquadrão de Aço are currently in first place in the Bahia State League Group A.
Their next game will be against Maranhão on Thursday for the Brazilian Cup.
