PSG coach Carlo Ancelotti: Thiago Silva is best defender in the world
Paris Saint-Germain coach Carlo Ancelotti has hailed Thiago Silva for his sterling performance against Barcelona in the Champions League.
The 28-year-old headed against the post to set up Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s equaliser as PSG came from behind twice to earn a draw in the first leg of the quarter-final tie.
Silva, who joined PSG for €42million last summer, was the driving force in his side’s resolve and persistence at the Parc des Princes, which Ancelotti has lauded.
Ancelotti said: "Thiago Silva is the best defender in the world. The game against Barca was a normal display for him.
"He’s quick, intelligent and very technical. He has all the qualities to be the best."
The Brazil international has also impressed former France coach Laurent Blanc, who echoed the former Chelsea boss' sentiments.
"I confirm everything that is said or written about Thiago Silva, whatever people think of him: he is the best in the world," the France coach told Le Parisien.
"He is very strong at defending, both on the ground and in the air. He is a complete player and has no faults.
"He is a modern defender because he is as strong defensively as many others, but has something more than the rest. When he has the ball, he knows what to do."
