Former Liverpool left-back Fábio Aurélio could finally debut for Grêmio, 333 days after he was signed, but his team were held to a 1-1 draw by Passo Fundo for the Rio Grande do Sul State Championship.

Grêmio rested a few starters as they are focusing on the Libertadores game against Fluminense.

Fábio Aurélio remained on the bench during most of the game, seeing Eduardo Vargas open the scoring for Grêmio in the first half.

Grêmio’s goalkeeper Marcelo Grohe started as Dida is injured, and he nearly needed to be replaced himself as he seemed to be injured early in the game.

The former Liverpool player finally replaced Guilherme Biteco in the second half, but Diego Miranda equalized for Passo Fundo a few minutes later.

This was Fábio Aurélio’s first game for Grêmio, as the left-back has struggled with injuries since he joined the club last year.

Vanderlei Luxemburgo managed Grêmio although his mother Rosa Luxemburgo da Silva died a few hours before the game.

Grêmio will face Cerâmica next Saturday, while Passo Fundo will meet Pelotas on Sunday.

Internacional’s striker Diego Forlán is the top scorer with 7 goals.
