São Paulo will not make the loan deal of Arsenal midfielder Denílson permanent and the player will return to Arsenal in July, according to reports.

Denílson started his career at São Paulo, was Brazil’s Under 20 captain and was soon transferred to Arsenal.

He failed to live up to the expectations and was loaned back to São Paulo where he has been spending his last two years.

The midfielder is having an unimpressive 2013 season and argued with a fan on twitter over his performances, São Paulo’s president Juvenal Juvêncio believes Denílson would not be worth the investment needed to keep him permanently at the club.

São Paulo would have to invest around 3 million Euros to keep him, which is deemed unnecessary as there are other midfielders of similar quality in the squad such as Fabrício, while Casemiro is also expected to return from Real Madrid Castilla in July.

The Arsenal loanee is also threatened by young midfielder Wellington, who fights for the same place in São Paulo’s first team.

Denílson wants to stay at the club and will need to use the next three months to convince São Paulo’s board that he can still be useful for the club.
