Palmeiras president Paulo Nobre has distanced the club from speculation that Adriano would soon be making a footballing comeback with the Palestra Italia side.

Adriano, 31, has been without a club since having his Flamengo contract ended early in late-2012 and has not played in over twelve months.

Speculation this week, though, had linked the striker with a return to the professional game with Palmeiras, as the Verdão search for a an idol in difficult times.

President Paulo Nobre, though, insists that there is no imminent deal in the pipeline for the powerful forward.

“We said that he should train in the gym, and that Palmeiras would be willing to employ a professional that would help him return to the weight of a professional athlete,” he told reporters.

“It is clear that the club would not refuse help to a human being. We said he could train with the club if he got into shape, but it didn’t happen.”
