Former Fenerbahçe midfielder Alex scores a brace, but Coritiba lose derby
Former Fenerbahçe midfielder Alex shone, scoring two goals for his team Coritiba against their rivals Paraná.
The midfielder has been a key player for Coritiba since he came from Turkey, but his efforts were not enough to prevent a defeat this Sunday.
The derby was played at Coritiba's Couto Pereira stadium, Paraná opened the scoring with Reinaldo, Argentine striker Juan José Morales extended Paraná's lead in the first half.
Alex lead Coritiba to a draw with a brace within 10 minutes in the second half, scoring two headers to equalize the game for the Coxa.
Coritiba's comeback was not to last though as centreback Pereira was sent off shortly after Alex's second goal.
Paraná took advantage of their numerical advantage to win the game 3-2 thanks to a goal by Rubinho near the end of the game. Thos was Coritiba's first defeat in the competition.
Coritiba and Paraná now have 8 points in the second turn of the Paraná State League and are respectively in fifth and sixth place.
Paraná face Operário next Wednesday, while Coritiba play later that day against Nacional.
