Benfica’s experienced centreback Luisão has admitted that he may stay at the Portuguese club for the rest of his career.

Luisão started his career at Juventus-SP, and played for Cruzeiro before joining Benfica in 2003.

He has since become an idol at Benfica, Luisão has stayed at the club despite interest from foreign teams, the centreback has also become the team’s captain.

The 32-year old defender admits he is more experienced now. He told RTP: “I am in my prime, we get more experienced and learn how to deal with expectations.

Luisão was asked if he will retire at Benfica, he said “Everything suggests that will happen, although the end of my career is far away. I don’t want to be stubborn and embarrass myself. I want to continue while I can still come home and make my daughters proud”.

Benfica are currently in first place in the Portuguese League and will face Newcastle in the Europa League quarter-finals.
